Abstract
Synonyms in The Münşeât By Nevres-i Kadîm: Creation Types, Structures and Functions
In this study, the synonyms in the Münşeât by Nevresi
Kadîm have been discussed. Having analyzed all of the
Münşeât for synonyms creation types, structures and
functions of them were examined and evaluated in terms
of eloquence. As a result of the examinations, it has been
seen that synonyms were created through adoption of foreign
words, language manipulations, words having similar
connotations and through the group of words signifying
the same meaning. It has been determined that synonyms,
which vary according to their positions and structures within
the text, were used systematically in three basic
structures as in the form of being placed in accordance with
a particular order within the text, in the form of being connected
to each other only by the conjunction (vâv) and in
the form of phrases pointing out a common meaning. Furthermore,
it has been established that synonyms, which
were not used aimlessly and randomly, have various aesthetic
contributions to and functions in the text, such as to
avoid repetition, to emphasize the meaning, to praise the
addressee more, to create seci, adorn the expression and
strengthen the meaning.
