Abstract
Beligi and His Divanche
Numerous poets grew in 16th century which is a period
when the peak was seen in the classical Turkish poetry.
One of these poets is Beligi that the information on his life
from the sources is very limited. The date of birth and real
name of the poet who is from İstanbul are not known. He
chose the janizary as occupation and he died in Murat the
Third’s period.
Latifi, a collector of the biographies thought that Beligi
is a poet who has divan. However, many of his poetries
which are enough to make a divanche are recorded in the
poetry journals even if any copies of his divan has not been
able to be reached up to now. The collectors of biography
spoke highly of Beligi’s poesy that he wrote generally in the
amorous and unconventional style. Beligi who demonstrated
that he was the good representative of the divan
literature with the poetries that he wrote succeeded in reflecting
the literary pleasure of period, when he lived, into
those poetries. The poet who was very successful at carrying
out the rhythm, rhyme and verse forms into the poetry
indicated his success in using the poetic themes and finding
the nice imaginations.
In this study, the form and content features of his determined
poetries will be firstly emphasized as a result of the
literature review related to Beligi’s poetry journals and the
various biographies; then, the poetry’s divanche will be formed
as those poetries’ translated-written text is included
in an appropriate array to the classical divan formation.
