Abstract
Muhibbî’s Diwan In The Context Of Religion, Sufism And Love Values
Human beings who have developed themselves in every
sense by learning new things since the first days of creation
have been in an effort to transfer the knowledge and
manners they have created over time to other people
starting from the nearest, thus directing the people around
to good and avoiding evil. The reason that prompts human
beings to this behaviour must be the innate good in human
beings. In fact, this is what the prophets do. We believe that
it won’t be wrong to say that giving advice started with
Adam, who is also the first prophet, and then everyone who
has a sense of goodness and responsibility from mothers,
fathers, brothers, sisters, friends and teachers to head of the
state has been in an effort to fulfil this duty.
Our study is on advice containing verses of is Suleyman
the Magnificent, who was a very sophisticated sultan
known to be very well educated by very important teachers
under the supervision of a disciplined father like Yavuz
Sultan Selim. Suleyman I, who usually used the
pseudonym Muhibbî in his poems, frequently included
wise couplets which can be found in every poet 's divan in
classical poetry.
The aim of the present study was to try to find out which
advice a Sultan who was well educated to be the Sultan of
the World, who received countless advice from experts in
different fields during his 46-year-long reign (1520-1566)
and who experienced so many events until his death at the age of seventy-two gave to other people with all his
experience.
The values and advice in our study are classified under
the titles of religious-sufistic issues, issues about love.
Appropriate examples were chosen from advices
expressing similar situations and messages, and these were
examined in terms of values education.
