Abstract
The Problem Of Reading Rounded Vowels İn Historical Texts: Examples From The Süheyl Ü Nevbahâr
Some of the problems of reading the Arabic-letter
historical texts are related to the rounded vowels. As an
example, a grammatical morpheme written in the form of
, it is possible to read in three ways: öli, ulı, üli and
these are meaningful. However, it should not be forgotten
that in this grammatical morpheme, the vav letter
corresponds to the v consonant. In other words, the
grammatical morpheme in question -as a meaningful
word- can also be read as avlı, evli. In this case, it is
understood or determined from context that what reading
styles are true or valid for the text we are reading. Thus,
the other two possible reading styles are eliminated.
In this study, some misreaded examples of rounded
vowels in Süheyl ü Nevbahar will be emphasized. In
addition, the problems and confusion that arise will be
solved by considering contexts and word structure. Later,
new reading proposals will be strengthened with
witnesses. Thus, from the examples given here, the reading
mistakes made in the reading of the rounded vowels will be
listed, and a contribution will be made to the correct
reading of the rounded vowels in the text studies.
