In its general meaning, maktels are the pieces written on the death of someone. Maktel, which is one of the important genres created in the Turkish Islamic literature by nourishing from the Islamic tradition, has gained a prevalence under the name Maktel-i Hussein by taking on a special identity in our literature.
In maktel-i Hussein texts, Prophet Mohammed's grandson Hussein's martyrdom in Karbala is explained in an emotional language. The fact that the incident has left great pain in the hearts has led to the depiction of these events with exuberant emotions and an extraordinary state. This has resulted in the fact that many events that do not coincide with historical reality have gained widespread anonymity in these works and are transferred from generation to generation as if they were real.
In this context, firstly, information will be given about maktel type and maktel-i Hussain, a short explanation will be given about what is epic (menkıbe), and then the extraordinary events will be marked with the specific focus on the special work named as Maktel-i Âl-i Resûl which is placed in Suleymaniye Library Hacı Mahmud Efendi Number 4724. Our aim is not to discuss whether the events are true or false, but to touch the legacy of this heritage in tradition.
