Abstract
XVIth Century Poet Melami Dede and His Unpublished Odes
Poem compilations have an extremely important place in text publishing studies in the field of classical Turkish literature. As a result of the academic studies that have been done on compilations a vast number of poems, are not included in published diwans, are coming to light. Besides that a wide range of poets and works, which have been mentioned in biographic sources but still waiting on the dusty shelves at libraries, are introduced to the science world by means of academic studies.
This study aims to introduce the three unpublished odes of XVIth poet Melami Dede and make the evaluations, related to his literal personality, available for those concerned. The work is completed based on the poem compilation that is registered for Topkapı Palace Museum Treasure Library No: 1062. At the beginning of this study, the general information about poem compilations and the historical development of the term of compilation were given. At the first part the information, that is placed at the collection of biographies and biographic sources belonging to Melami Dede, who is the only and also a maulawi poet bearing this pseudonym, have been expressed according to the knowledge we could determined. At the second part after the general information about the unpublished odes, that is also the subject of this study, is given; the observation about Melami Dede’s odes has been done in terms of rhythm, rhyme, repeated voice, language, wording and content. At the third part, the text of the odes and their modern Turkish version are given. At the conclusion part, the general evaluation has been done regarding the purpose and findings of our study.
