Abstract
Turkish Poetry Collections in the Library of Nuruosmaniye: Research and Index
Researchers in the field of Turkish literature are
expected to be acquainted with the cultural and social
understanding of the period they specialize as well as its
traditions which might seem trivial in the first place but in
fact present significant information regarding the daily life
of that time. Poetry collections can be considered to
function as the mirror of the period they were written in
terms of the intellectual and social platforms they reflect to
the reader. In this context, poetry collections have a crucial
place in Turkish literature and specifically in Old Turkish
literature studies for they reflect the cultural life and
literary taste of the period including its social and religious
values. It will be of a great service to the researches of the
mentioned fields to detect the poetry collections which
contain proses and poems written in Turkish and make the
data accessible to them for their future studies.
After an extensive research carried out in the library of
Nuruosmaniye, this study gives information about 17
poetry collections that contain Turkish poems. The pieces
in Arabic and Farsi in addition to the proses written in
Turkish are referred in the introduction of the mentioned
collection while main poems of the focus are indexed. For
each collection, pseudonym/name of the poet, verse style of
the poem and its foil number is listed. This study aspires to
make it easier for the researchers of the mentioned field to
access works of the poets they are interested in. Instead of
scanning the whole collection of the library of Nuruosmaniye,
such researchers will have the opportunity to consult this work to find the necessary information
regarding the poems they inquire. Moreover, some problems
and scarcity experienced when it comes to catalouging
the collections will be tackled aptly.
