Abstract
Azmi-zade Haleti's Satire About Derviş Paşa: Hadd-i Mestân
Satires come out of the mergence of the poet's
imagination and the emontions such as rage, hatred, will
to ridicule, criticism that comes from human nature. In
this context, increase in the writings in this genre must
be carefully addressed, the mesages it gives must be
examined thoroughly. We witness that works belong to
satire genre is written more than any otherperiod in 17th
century in Turkish literature. Decay in the political
structure of Ottoman Empire played a substantial role on
this. Divan poets did not fail to notice how bureaucrats
tried to disgrace their rivals with plots. Poets took a stand
against the people who are high-handed, wrongdoers and
engaged in political plots. Azmi-zade Haleti is one of this
poets. The subject of this article is his satire named Hadd-i
Mestan which he said about the grand vizier of the
period. This satire had not been come to light before
although there could be found information about it on the
reference works. Haletiwho is mostly mentioned with his
rubais in the literature histories, used a very strong
language that is similar to Nef'i's. Hadd-i Mestan that
the poet wrote after the execution of Derviş Pasha who is
not refered with fairness in Ottoman chroniclesis an
important piece of work for Turkish satire literature.
